StorageByte Privacy Policy

Effective 1 November 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the StorageByte app for iPhone and iPad (“the app”), developed by iDev (“we”, “us”), handles your information.

In short: StorageByte analyses your storage, photos and files entirely on your device. It has no accounts, no servers, no advertising and no analytics or tracking. iDev does not collect, receive or sell any of your information, and your photos and files are never uploaded.

Your photo library

With your permission (full or limited access), StorageByte reads your photo library to measure how much space photos and videos use and to find duplicates, similar photos, blurry or dark shots, large videos and screenshots. This analysis — including image comparison using Apple's Vision framework — runs on your device.

StorageByte also uses write access to the library, but only when you ask it to:

  • Deleting — photos and videos you choose are deleted through iOS, which asks you to confirm, and are moved to Recently Deleted in the Photos app for 30 days.
  • Converting — when you convert photos to HEIC or keep only the photo from a Live Photo, a new photo is created (in an album named “SBHEIC” or “SBPhotos”) and the original is moved to Recently Deleted. Date, location, favourite and hidden status and album membership are kept; captions, keywords and people tags are not.

If you use iCloud Photos, viewing, playing or converting an item may cause Apple's Photos framework to download the original from your iCloud account. This happens between your device and Apple under Apple's privacy policy; nothing is sent to iDev.

What the app stores on your device

  • A cache of photo and video sizes (including file names), so later scans are faster. It is kept in the app's cache folder, which iOS may clear at any time.
  • Files you import into StorageByte's own folder, which is also visible in the Files app.
  • Links (bookmarks) to folders you choose to connect from iCloud Drive, On My iPhone or an external drive, so the app can reopen them. StorageByte can only access the folders you pick.
  • Preferences such as appearance and sort order.

Device information

The Overview and Memory screens show information about your device — model, iOS version, storage, memory, battery, display and network connection status. This is read on your device to display it and is not stored or sent anywhere. StorageByte does not make network requests of its own.

When information leaves your device

  • Sharing — files you share are sent to the destination you choose, under that service's own privacy policy.
  • Device backups — files in StorageByte's folder are included in iCloud or computer backups according to your device's backup settings.

What we do not do

  • We do not upload, view or receive your photos, videos or files.
  • We do not collect personal information, usage data, location or device identifiers.
  • We do not use analytics, crash-reporting or advertising SDKs, or any third-party code.
  • We do not track you across apps or websites, or share data with data brokers.

Keeping and deleting your data

You can remove StorageByte's photo access at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos. Files you delete in the Files tab are deleted permanently. Deleting the app removes its cache, settings, folder links and the files stored in its own folder; it does not affect your photo library.

Purchases

StorageByte does not contain advertising. If the app is offered for a price or with in-app purchases, payments are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store; we do not receive your payment details.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your country).

Your rights

Because we do not collect or hold your personal information, we have no personal data about you to access, correct or delete — everything is under your control on your device, as described above. If you have questions or wish to exercise any rights you may have under privacy laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, contact us using the details below.

Changes to this policy

If the app's handling of information changes, we will update this policy, post the new version at this address and change the effective date below. Significant changes will also be described in the app's release notes.
